Dating to the S/S 2000 'Summertime' collection, this piece was inspired by the Greek god Dionysus, the god of wine, fertility, ritual madness, theater, and religious ecstasy. Accordingly, the toile print of this corset is spattered with red wine 'stains' evoking the hedonistic theme of this collection. Westwood based the print on a textile in the V&A collection - the fabric was first given a screen-print wash to resemble wine stains & then overprinted with the historic design. Gorgeously constructed, this features a boned interior cropped corset with a draped & ruched overlay, scalloped neckline & hem, and gathered & puffed sleeves. The back of the overlay fastens with gold Vivienne Westwood orb logo buttons. Made in Italy, this is a collectible piece of vintage Westwood.
